Straighten Your Teeth Discreetly

InvisalignYour teeth get noticed more than you may realize. Why not have them look their best and be healthy, too, with straight dental alignment from the Invisalign system? Popular with older teens and adults who have mild to moderate orthodontic issues, clear acrylic Invisalign aligners gently and gradually shift teeth into optimal positions. At Kevin Midkiff DDS Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Lynchburg, new Invisalign smiles are created discreetly. Could the next one be yours?

Metal or ceramic braces show when you smile, and they come with complicated oral hygiene rules and some dietary limitations as well. Adult patients often desire well-aligned smiles but wish to avoid the complexities and obvious appearance of traditional braces. That's where Invisalign comes in.

Invisalign treatment

Through oral examination and special imaging techniques, Dr. Midkiff determines if a teen or adult patient can use Invisalign aligners. Many problems respond well to these customized aligner pairs--things such as:

  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Openbite
  • Gaps (under crowding)
  • Over crowding
  • Tooth rotation
  • Tooth tipping
  • Orthodontic relapse
  • Protruding front teeth

However, complicated cases still may require conventional braces. Your dentist in Lynchburg has the training and experience to know if Invisalign is the way to go.

If you qualify...

Expect your Invisalign treatment to last nine to 18 months with a year being about average. Traditional orthodontics usually takes two to two and a half years or even longer to complete.

Also, expect to wear 18 to 30 aligner pairs (they resemble teeth whitening trays), changing each pair every two weeks until your care plan finishes. They are removable, discreet, easy to clean and cause no changes to your diet or oral hygiene routine. Just take them out for brushing, flossing, meals and snacks.

Further, expect progress checks at your dentist's office every month to six weeks. Dr. Midkiff will track your progress and give you the next aligners in your treatment sequence. You'll wear your appliances 20 to 22 hours a day to keep your teeth moving toward the desired goal.

Finally, expect to wear a retainer when your treatment is complete. This comfortable appliance will keep your beautiful new smile in place and avoid orthodontic relapse (teeth sometimes shift after braces are removed).
